Disk,
Just looked at an '88 convertible that's apart. On the left side of the auto shifter box is the inhibitor switch that also contains the reverse light switch. It's a triangular black plastic gizmo about 2.5" on each side attached with 2 small screws. The starter motor wire goes to that switch and then another wire goes from the inhib. sw. to the ignition switch. It prevents starting in any position except neutral and park. This would be on the auto. shift box that you took out.
The layout of wires on the ig. sw. on this car is; Fat gray wire (power) on term. (#30) nearest engine, fat yellow/red (starter motor) wire on next term. (#50) clockwise (that's the wire that used to be on the inhib. sw.) small gray/white wire on next term clockwise (#54), double red wire next clockwise term. (#X), small green wire on the term that's right in the middle (#S) and fat white/green wire on the remaining term. (#15, about 10 o'clock pos.). I don't have the wiring book for '93 but I think that it's the same layout. Cheers
