In PA, Saabs are REALLY on the bad side of the supply/demand curve. This one is not being sold by someone who knows the cars. He states some things that are pretty far off base. He's right that a near-perfect condition SPG with 131k miles would certainly fetch $5,000...provided all service records are in order and known failures have been addressed. Unfortunately, this seller isn't going to have that information...nor would I trust him to know.
If we assumed that most of the car is not-yet-replaced, then I'd be concerned about a transmission, steering rack, fuel pump, vacuum lines, bypass valve, possibly a turbo, coolant system repairs, I bet the a/c doesn't work, headliner is probably done, it needs tires and brakes, possiby rotors, who knows the condition of the inner drivers and CV joints, etc., etc., etc.. It needs body work and paint too. Plus it can't be driven any distance, so it has to be trucked unless it's sold super close (not likely because it's probably many $$ from passing east coast inspections).
So, he's right that a near-perfect-condition 1989 SPG is worth $5,000. But I see about $8,000 worth of work to get it there...not all at once of course, but I bet in the next 2 years that's what it would come to.
And his tone in the listing is pretty non-negotiable.
His only hope is to make it driveable and hope for someone to buy it figuring on getting a great deal for $1,000...or...part it out.
I am in the market for one of these and didn't even consider it after reading the listing.
