You may want to check the resistance of all your positive cables; the one on my '88 looked okay at first glance but it had chafed through the insulation inside one of the retaining hoops (good thing there's a rubber liner in there!) and the copper wire was really, most sincerely corroded inside all the connections. I'm very lucky that cable didn't short out and catch fire.
