Been going through a series of performance hassles with my
88 900 CT. Initially, problems I was having led me to presume
stall/stutter problems when the car was warmed up were
caused by the AMM or O2 Sensor. Updated these and all the
usual suspects. Problem just seemed to get worse.
The only bright spot in all this was highway driving. For some reason,
my SAAB seemed to perform jsut fine on the road at higher speeds.
Figured the problem had to do with clogged injectors and used
an injector cleaner to restore them.
Still had the stall/hesitation problem in traffic whenever I stopped
the car.
Things went seriously downhill this weekend. Atlanta was hit with
low temps (29 degrees). When I went to start up the car I heard,
for the first time, a metallic clicking sound coming from the trunk
area where the fuel pump is (1/4 tank of gas). I filled the up ASAP
and went on my way. Car seemed to perform no better or worse that day.
From that day forward, I have trouble starting the car and cannot
get it to drive more than a 1/4 mile before running into serious
hesitation/power problems. Can't even get up a small hill without
having the car's power drop off until the engine stalls.
If I wait until the engine is dead cold, I can get it to start up and
make the trip back home to the garage. Period.
I want to tap your combined experiences to assess whether a core problem might be the fuel pump. I thought there using to be a whirring sound
when I turned the key to "on." I assumed it was the pump building up pressure in the fuel line. I realize now that sound is gone. There is no noise from the fuel pump when I go to start up my SAAB -- with the exception of the metallic clicking sound heard last weekend during the cold spell. All ideas and suggestions are much appreciated!
