Finally found a 1990 Talledega Red 900SPG in great shape, with lots of miles but received lots of love. No dings or dents, no rust, solid runner. Here's a good story...car is 325 miles away.
My wife and I drove to get the car, met the seller, class act guy - on the up-and-up, everything he said was true, no surprises except that the car is stuck in base boost. I'll diagnos and fix - not a biggie.
Car drove home just fine. No hiccups, no troubles, everything worked as I expected. Took the car out for a spin the next day - drove another 20 or 30 miles. 6 blocks from home, she dies. I'm immediately thinking fuel pump just because of the suddenness of the shut down. It was an instantaneous loss of either spark or fuel - one or the other.
After diagnosing for a quick 5 minutes, I cranked it again, and it started. Lowered the rear seat to listen to the fuel pump and the pump was grinding up a storm. Jumped in and hoped I'd get it home with what is left of the pump.
Made it to 2 blocks away, managed to coast to the top of the driveway, washed and shined it, and pushed it into the garage. Today it's snowing 8 - 10 inches.
It's all kismet. The new fuel pump will be here Friday. I'll fix over the weekend. All good. Made it home 325 miles. Got a day of joyriding, one small problem that is easy to fix, but I made it to my garage and it's so awful outside - I wouldn't drive it for the next several days anyway!
This car and I are going to get along just fine!
