Wheel Leaning (sorry about that)

Recently, I replaced all the brake pads on my '92 900 Hatch. The car could stop on a dime (not literally) afterwards. On my way to an appointment, a van driver turned in front of me. I had to make a semi-hard stop and everything seemed fine afterwards. On the way back to work, I noticed a "metal-on-metal" sound coming from the front driver's tire. I thought that the hard stop caused the brake caliper to get stuck. I pulled the tire as soon as I got home and everything was in order. The sound was more pronounced at lower speeds, but disappeared over 35 mph. After picking up my son from his mother's house, a clunk was heard upon by us both at the stoplight. He suggested that we turn around as I had just told him about my sister's car losing the wheel to a bad bearing. At this point, the car was getting harder to stop. I finally parked it and noticed a funny smell along with an angle change of the tire. The top is leaning towards the car now. Is it the wheel bearing or something more? I parked it and haven't looked back. I am sure that the rotor is ruined by the change in angle. It has about 172k miles on it and the engine is strong.
