The speedo face has a mark where the needle will rest once lifted over the stop peg. If not, lift the needle over the peg so it rests freely and mark the face of the speedo.

Carefully pry the needle up with a small screwdriver. Be sure to pry under the part of the needle that mates with the shaft and not the plastic part of the needle. I think I used a seafood fork once.

Once you reset the gears, you will probably have to compress the center of the metal gear with pliers or it will slip and the odo won't work. This gear is the usual culprit in odometers that don't work.

Have fun.

Taking the gauges out is one of my least favorite things to do but if you have it out already have it out you're 40% there.
