The ignition switche is pretty straightforward. You need to connect the big grey wire (+12v from battery) to the wires at pins 15, X, and 54 - that's everything you need to run the car. Some things may not work, but the critical stuff will. You'll need to momentarily connect that big grey wire to the big yellow wire at pin 50 to spin the starter.
In the past, I've made some jumper wires to do this - a big spade connector to shove into the big grey wire that splits into three other wires each with spade connectors (for pins 15, X, and 54) and one wire that goes through a push-button switch and then onto another spade connector for pin 50. It works fine, although it's not exactly elegant. These days, I've built a little assembly into a project box and keeps everything nicely tucked away. It starts my SPG and our racecar all the time!
