Interesting development in the manual transmission leak I have been chasing for awhile in my '86 900t. Transmission rebuilt last Sept/Oct by local indie ran till winter then sat 'til this spring.

Leak appears to originate from behind slave. Replaced input shaft seal (2x - figuring I gacked this first replacement), removed and coated the slave bolts with Teflon paste, changed out the input shaft -- still leaking. Ughh!

Tearing into it again this morning to do - frankly, I don't know what - I find an open threaded hole in the primary drive case directly below the slave. Look at my extra mothballed 5spd from an '85 and see the business end of a bolt sticking through from the internals. According to the manual and epc, looks like one of the two primary chain tensioner bolt holes. Ran a bolt from the exterior and it seems to run all the way in.

Questions:

-Looks very well like the source of my frustration/leak?

-Looks like I've got a bolt missing off the chain tensioner - assuming I've got one in there?

-I've put a few thousand on the rebuild without unusual noises or occurrences, and really don't want to pull it for a third time in six-months (first rebuild seemed to lack reverse, ugh). Can I just run a shoulder bolt w/sealant in from the outside and, if so, how long? Should I try to run one in long enough to hold an assumed tensioner?
