Why change oil soon after adding Chevron Techron? Posted by Wil W [Email] (#1148) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Wil W) on Mon, 14 May 2007 14:46:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi,
I'm about to put a bottle of Techron Plus into my '89 SPG (153K) on my next fill up. The car runs well right now except for slight idle fluctuations. I put in a bottle last summer to clean out the system and for that tank it ran smoother than it ever had. I had planned on putting a bottle in periodically (6-9mos) for maintenance. My question is, I have seen multiple posts about putting the stuff in a tank or two before a planned oil change, why? I am about 2-3 tanks from my next oil change.
I know this isn't a solution for my idle fluctuations (+/- 50 rpm), more more likely dirty TB, AIC, AMM, and possible vacuum line cracks. I always run Premium fuel (91+ octane) and run dyno oil changed at 3K/6mos intervals.
I will also dump a bottle into my '02 Aero Wagon but will try to time that as necessary with an oil change.
TIA for the clarification.
