i think you'll have a better idea when you remove the old filter. look to see if there's any debris on the gasket after you remove it. also look to see if there's any debris on the surface where the gasket mates to the housing. i always that surface a little wipe with a cloth before installing the filter, and make sure that you always smear some oil on the gasket before installing the filter. are you using an oem or Mann filter? also, check the threads which the filter screw onto.
i'm not sure what could be causing your leak, but this is where i'd start.
