This is happening to all the vac canisters on C900 models. Even the newest models are almost 15 years old. I've tried vac cans from the salvage yards and the problem is normally not the check valve leakage as much as the leakage through the cap over the valve. It has a thin rubber washer that cracks when it is this old. I've tried to replace the gasket, but the best solution I've found so far is to cut the neck off of the canister, buy a 1/4" barbed brass fitting (barbed on both ends) and some rubber grommets. Drill the canister out to the point that you can fit the grommet, then insert the barbed fitting into the grommet. Connect a short length (maybe 2") of vacuum hose to the other end of the brass fitting. Go to NAPA and ask for a one way valve and they will sell you a high quality one way valve made in USA made by MPC (http://www.mpcvalves.com) and connect it between the 2" section and your small diameter vacuum hose to provide the check valve function. This arrangement works and can be easily serviced if the grommet rots or the check valve fails.
