Here's the experience I had after purchased my 90' gearbox in late 1990; The place that had acquired the donor car put on a brand new primary chain gear housing as the orig. one was damaged in the crash. I was fine with this & happily paid $1200 for that beautiful, very shinny transaxle...a veritable bargain after having turned down several grease encrusted junkyard trannys for $650! They changed the front mount & installed the old style inner drivers for me too...what more could you ask!
Here's what! --- The motor started right up after I spent two days getting the thing installed...preceded by three days of cleaning the engine compartment to concours standard...& I drove off feeling very happy. Then upon decelerating, a loud grinding noise emanated from my new tranny :{ I assumed I had left a screwdriver in the bell housing, but no, it was that 91' housing. Saab apparently made some changes that weren't compatible w/the 90' box. Bummer, I had to do it all over again. I was supplied w/some used front calipers & a PS rack for my trouble...hardly worth it, but that's all they would do. I'll bet VvacOmatic probably takes his engine out once in awhile for fun. HaHa!
