oh I also have a tool kit in each of my Saabs. This time I still had my large travel kit from being at Walter Wong's too. I had lots of tools, it was the ground strap that broke and did me in, *almost*.
I got a battery ground strap at Pep boys, 18 inch long, trimmed one end off just below the predrilled hole, drilled a proper size hole for the bolt on the alternator, bolted that part in, and the other end under the upper bolt on the starter rear bracket (the bracket that has two bolts that go into the block). Solid, all visible for future reference, easy to maintain and a $4.50 fix.
But have added the wire nuts to my kit. Had wire. Wire nuts are very useful!
Each of my cars has one of the road side kits from costco, and it has additions to it (mostly tools and gloves). Those kits have the mat to work on, nylon tow rope with hooked ends, dc air pump, fix a flat in a can, jumper cables, flares, and some other crap. Nice zipper bag with handles. I put a small zip tie (kind you can break without tools) on a kit after it has been inventoried and closed to show it is in fact complete. Military thing. Also add a small rubber maid like (Walmart box actually) box with a snap on top so no leaks with oil (mobile-1 in the plastic screw on cap), rags, rubber gloves, fuses in a prescription plastic bottle, headlight bulbs, tail light bulbs, 4 way screwdriver and a swiss army torx. Brake fluid and power steering fluid bottles live in the appropriate spots under the hood along with a couple of rags.
I'm usually loaded for bear. having a ground strap that I could not see the other end break was a fun one!
