On the window motor, there are only two wires.
When you say two red wires, you mean on the switch?
That may be B+ power from fuse 11 (on my diagram).
My diagram shows one to the window motor, and the other to "a relay for control of automatic window" (I'm guessing the auto-stop feature).
Not sure if you car is the same.
Black is just about universally ground.
When you connect the two reds together, you may be just bypassing the switch. Think of it like this, on one side of the switch is B+ (thru a fuse), on the other is "switched B+. The "switced" side does not have B+ until you "press" or close the contacts.
Have you checked the relay?
