Nash, thanks for helping me sort this problem out. To answer your questions:
1. Yes, oil is full, brand new, and changed every 5K kilometers.
2.I do not hear the sound at cold starts, it occurs when the engine is "coasting". It goes away under load and under compression braking.
It is just as you imagine a loose connecting rod to act around a pin, when it is not "pulling" it will just rattle.
3.A/C is removed and all brackets are tight.
I know this engine is getting tired, I'd just like to get a few month's more out of it before tearing it down.
