if tightening of the axle nut solved the problem of the wheel movement, then in to way proceed into the assembly.
if you take the car out on the hwy and get her up to 65 mph there should be a heavy vibration and the vibration will only get worse the faster the car goes. if you don't experience any vibration then the wheel bearing is intact,
if the wheel dose not move at all (its solid) when trying to move it with you hands then you can count out the hub shaft,
with the ball joints being bad, real bad the hole steering member will move or jiggle with your hands.
but again if its solid seems like you found the problem.
do the hwy speed vibration check
then run the car around some hair pin corners see how it feels, (solid, popping noise, perhaps an extra jerk in the steering wheel that was never there before.
if it all checks out 100% with no vibration, well done.
