1986 900S 16V non-turbo
Hello everyone, I have two urgent questions:
Q1) Does anybody know if the Upper Control Arm Bushing (UCAB) is smaller than Lower Control Arm Bushing (LCAB)?
I noticed one of my UCABs (right side) is gone! I ordered one set of each, UCAB and LCAB.
Now, i see UCAB are smaller than LCAB. (Lower=33X38mm with the center metal bushing diameter of 16mm) v.s. (Upper=29X33mm with the center metal bushing diameter of 8mm)!
Considering i haven't taken things apart form the car yet, visually, lower arm bearing brackets look bigger than upper ones. But when i looked at the bearing bracket for UCAB and compared its size to bushing in my hand, the bushing looked much smaller! I wonder if i have the right part and i have to make sure this before start working on it.
Q2) Bentley is talking about taking the engine out in order to remove the right (passenger side) upper control arm (so called wishbone). However, i am not going to remove the wishbone. Do you think i can just take the bearing brackets out to replace the bushings without taking the whole wishbone out?
Note: I know that to even replace upper bushings on the left side (driver side), the engine has to be taken out because there isn't enough clearance to work there, but right side is not that bad except the power steering pipe right on front of bearing bracket!
