may be a significant problem,
but to get it from stop jumping all over the place a few items need to be obtained first.
grab 10 buxs, and head to you nearest paint store, Sherwin Williams, porter paint, Duron, M.A.B.,any repeatable paint store
walk in the front door and up to the nearest teller, and say these words.
(I`m looking for a wallpaper past needle)
that should do it, however the paint store guys/gals sniffed allot of paint in their time and might want to play mind games, just to see if you know what your asking for,
if they do they are more than likely to play stupid, and say what?
then say (its the needle used to inject wall paper past into a bubble behind the wall paper)
at this time they should be running throughout their store trying to find it.
this item will run about 8 buxs.
with needle in hand (might i add do not leave the store without it,
if you get a joker to help you and their most stupid, ask for the mangier)
now run to the nearest auto part store, and with the remaining 2 buxs,... might have to scrounge around the car and get 50cents for tax.
with 2.50 in hand run into the store and grab a tub of c.v. joint grease
then head to a suitable place to work on the car.
pull the driver side speaker grill (with speaker) and go outside of the car and look down into the hole.
you will see the speedo cable run to the back of the instrument cluster,
look at how it is attached,
you will notice a little silver metal tab on top of the round cylinder that the cable is connected to.
with you finger lift up on the silver metal tab, after it loosens grab the end of the speedo cable and slightly lift up and then back to the fire wall.
with the cable fully removed from the cluster grab the needle.
attach the needles end to the plunger and then open the c.v. grease suck up a good quality of it.
take the needle and aim it inside the speedo cable.
the needle will not be able to get between the metal cylinder but go on and try to squirt a good amount in the general direction, you will find the cylinder that sits atop of the speedo cable will start to fill with c.v. grease only let it fill to the amount of the width of you thumb. now seeing you there, go outside and inspect all the little bolts that hold the speedo unit together, look to see if any are loose, as in backed off the back of the cluster.
tighten any loose bolt found and reassemble everything.
now
the c.v. joint grease is not a miracle liquid, in which it wont start to work right off the bat.
after 500 miles the c.v. grease will work its way down into the cable, and the speedo needle will stop all its erratic jumping, and start to work as if nothing ever happened.
as to how long the c.v. grease will last....
I`m still counting the days from my last needle jump.
about the needle being in the 0 position while driving.
I'm thinking the screws my be very loose on the back of the cluster and the cable is on the verge of falling out on its own.
a visual check needs to be done.
