Well, I made it from Hawaii (Oahu) to Massachusetts (Cape Cod) in my 1985 c900 turbo sedan. I shipped my car via Matson Navigation from Hawaii to Seattle. Then I drove from Seattle to Massachusetts via the northern route through Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park and Ohio, etc.. The car ran great but lacked a lot of power going over the 4000 to 9000 foot mountain passes of the Rocky Mountains in 100+ heat. The car ran great the whole time but I wish the outside temperature wasn't so hot and that 91 octane wasn't the hightest octane available in the West. Thankfully I have a great water injection system to combat the heat and low octane gas. I was also scared about the low readings at idle from my vacuum gauge at higher elevations, but felt better when I realized that it was just due to the thin air at higher elevations. Once I crossed the Rockies, I got about 30 mpg even with 300-400 lbs of luggage and lots of performance modifications like 30lb injectors.
Overall it was a big trip for me and my SAAB (4300 miles) and we're happy to be on the Mainland USA. It was good to see that my 200K mile car was up to the ordeal and I think it's largely a result of all the TLC I've provided to my vehicle over the past several years. Any fellow c900 lovers on Cape Cod? I'm in the town of Mashpee.
Aloha, Chris
