same as my 92. if that is the case, then i think you are wrong (with respect!). i had to look before writing this, because i never trust my knowledge, especially if i am going to tell someone they are wrong!
#1 is top, just off to the pass side (us) on the distributer. like you said, to do static timing, put flywheel zero degree mark in window on top of flywheel cover,but you want rotor facing UP, slightly off to pass side. then, from front of car, anticlockwise 1342 for wires. then, as you also said, set timing 16 deg vac line capped.
Not about me being right, just trying to get the car running!
