I posted a week ago with questions about the suitability of some questionable junkyard brake boosters for a replacement in my 88 spg . I have not tested or put one of these boosters in my car yet because I hurt my back taking them out . I don't think I can do the job for a while because of my back . I can handle the extra brake force needed for a couple of weeks , but I'm wondering if the vacuum leak from the booster is causing some lean running and not so good for the engine . I don't hear any hissing from under the dash until I apply the brakes so I don't know if its leaking vacuum at the times I'm concerned about such as when I stomp on it . it definately screws the idle up when I'm stopped or almost stopped . I'm actually getting better boost now {like on a cold day } which I attributed to either leaner mixture while boosting or the advance capsule not dumping in its 5 degrees of retard as quickly as it normally does , because the booster is leeching some of the capsules vacuum away . hey , there's an idea for a timing mod . could this also strain the master since it was probably not designed to work without the booster ? sorry there are several questions to answer here , but the most important ones are about potential damage to the engine or master . thanks in advance .
