If the system isn't bled, yes, you'll get some weird temperature swings. Unbled, the small air bubbles gather into big air bubbles, and get trapped near the top of the system. This can cause lack of heat, or for the thermostat to not open correctly. Or for the temperature to read funny.
The 9000 doesn't need bleeding, but the 900 does. I stick a thin hose on the nipple and run it into a glass jar. Then start the car and let it idle. Crack open the nipple (rotate left) and let some fluid flow out. You'll probably get both fluid and air. When you stop getting air bubbles in the fluid, close the nipple and wait a minute or two. Repeat. When you don't get any air bubbles, you're done. This MUST be done every time the cooling system is opened. Not at the expansion tank, but any part of the rest of the system.
