I enjoyed your post and look forward to reading more from you as you delve into your 1985 turbo.
I have an 85 turbo too and you'll be happy to know that the wiring should be fundamentally good throughout most of the car (and all the interior) but the insulation definitely disintegrates in a few well known problem spots in the engine bay. Mine was bad around the driver's side door jamb and also inside the large wire loom that runs parallel to the fuel rail. Someone with your skills could probably replace/refurbish the bad wiring in a weekend. I replaced some wiring and also just used liquid electrical tape to reinsulate some wiring.
With regard to vacuum lines, I'd strongly suggest buying a good length of silicone hosing and replacing them all. Feel free to replace the lines on the cruise control system too, but they're a totally separate system.
There's never going to be another c900, so take good care of yours!
