not knowing if this is the point of your water loss but when i first heard about it, it was most impressive.
I to am loosing coolant, not much but over the course of a year my tank goes from full to minimum,
and like yours i found no point of origin for the leak.
no dryed water marks on the motor and no spots on the road.
of course i posted about this but got no replies,
it was some time after when MS posted about their mysterious water leak was found.
seem MS had the same problem, i don't know if i recall correctly but their leak may have been a little faster.
in anycase MS pined the location of their leak, turns out the expansion tank was removed and when a visual check was done on the bottom, they found small fractures all over the bottom of the tank.
upon further inspection of the car, seems the fluid was taking the path down the shock (dripped in the hole where the top bolt bolts in)
in my case after a 1000 mile trip my tank may drip once, to get my fluid down within a year.
anyhow this may not be the point of origin for your coolant loss but it dose not hurt to check. me personally i never got around to swapping the tank out,
and about dreading working under the car im right there with you.
i find when im under there with the car up on ramps im in danger of falling asleep, laying on my back and all,... pull me up a pillow. :)
