Could be the distributor plug and/or socket. I've had to replace both on my 87 900T. The socket on the distributor went first...the plastic degrades over time and allows moisture/condensation to corrode the plug connector. The socket plastic part is available from the dealer...$5 or so. You just take a needle nose and stuff the connector blades back into the distributor enough to get the socket off (REMEMBER which slot they gozinta!) and put the new socket back in there.
The plug is another problem that eventually degrades and the plug boot is NLA...no longer available. The connector (comes with a pigtail, you'll need three) and the plastic plug are still available. The harness is shielded, probably for the antiknock sensor, but I just used the new connectors and plastic plug and some electrical tape. After I got the new connector installed and everything plugged onto the distributor, I slathered RTV silicone sealer around the worn/cracked boot and around the electrical-taped wired harness back up to the shield.
When you said it died while passing my first thought was you blew the hose off the turbo...but you said it started after being towed to the parking lot. I've had to replace several of the pressure-side hoses on my 87 900T..it would be good to look carefully at yours, especially the one from the turbo to the pipe to the intercooler.
