Re: Boost/APC level Automatic vs. Manual trans Posted by CMyles [Email] In Reply to: Re: Boost/APC level Automatic vs. Manual trans, DietrichOS |
Dietrich,
You'll get the best performance and mileage when your car is running well and properly tuned. There is no such thing as a performance defect that improves efficiency (unless the car is being towed). The T37 automatic doesn't have overdrive like the 5 speed does and hydraulic transmissions naturally demonstrate less than perfect torque delivery, a condition which can become more pronounced as the clutches wear, so it can't get the high speed fuel economy of the five speed overdrive manual transmission. My experience is that a fresh T37 automatic isn't really any weaker than a fresh 5 speed but they all eventually fail and often while being pushed hard. With a freshly rebuilt T37 in a STOCK C900 turbo you should be able to apply all the boost that the APC system provides without hurting the gearbox. If your gearbox is old and worn and approaching it's expiration date, make your engine run well and drive so that you don't torture it. Ultimately you're in control of the turbo. Cheers
