Hey folks,
So I swapped APC boxes today while trying to diagnose a clattering APC solenoid and it seems to have solved my. It will still clatter after
a couple taps on the knock sensor but I'm assuming that's normal,
right?
The APC box I put in is pretty much stock as far as I know and it's
giving me pretty normal boost levels. The one I had in there before
was a bit tweaked to give me slightly more than stock levels.
I went onto the highway nearby to see how the car feels with the new
box and accelerating hard in third and just short of 5k RPM, the car
felt like the ignition was breaking up badly. I'm not sure if it was
misfiring?
The cap/rotor/plugs are all less than 30k old. The ignition wires are
Magnecor and seem to be in very good shape, but I didn't try the water
test since I also read on here that they'll spark even when they're
new. The Bosch Red ignition coil is probably 5 years old. The
ignition module is maybe 2 years old at most.
Unfortunately I don't have a spare stock coil to test and I found a
used set of stock Bougicord ignition wires, but I dont have the wire
for the coil.
Out of curiousity I pulled the plugs and they're all kind of whiteish.
Strangely though, the one from cylinder number 2 had lots of white
deposits on it, like tiny barnacles. Should I assume that the car is
running lean?
More background info: The car used to get better boost but for the
last couple of years seems to not like anything over 12psi (around the
yellow/red break on Saab's boost gauge). I haven't been able to
figure out why. Car has 3 bar FPR (not sure of it's integrity) and a
full 3" exhaust system. Perhaps the fat exhaust is causing a lean
condition, but I'm not sure why one cylinder has the white deposits on
the plug.
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
