The check valve is on the hose side of the bottle. Pull off the hose upstream and suck on it -- if it doesn't hold vaccum, then the line is leaking or the bottle. If it does hold, then the check valve is probably OK. One way to tell if it is affecting the idle at start up is to disconnect it from the system, and plug the vac line on the manifold. Start it and see how it responds. Then connect the vac reservoir up and try again. Note any differences. Let it idle for 30 seconds, and re start. See if it is any different after the vac reservoir is "charged" or contains negative pressure. If it doesn't hold the pressure, then it could act like a vacuum leak until the reservoir has been evacuated. Hope that makes sense........
