I had the same experience a couple of years back, got the entire grey leather seating (front buckets and back bench) from a '91 4 dr for $100; I just couldn't let the elements or the crusher destroy it.
The seats reside still unused in my garage attic. The fronts were installed for a time in my '88 900S, but incompatibilities with safety belt routing lead to their removal and replacement to the attic. At this point I'd just as soon offer them up for auction on fleabay to recoup my cost, but shipping costs (skins still on seats) would seem like a deal-breaker.
Bottom line: no good deed or intention goes unpunished. If you have immediate need for the leather, then go for it. Otherwise just post the availability that you have discovered and then let it go, Louie, let it go.
