I recently replaced my '89 900S 5 speed's brake master cylinder ( which was leaking internally ) with a new one purchased from ebay. I replaced all four brake discs and pads and replaced the two rear calipers with a pair that I had rebuilt. When I tried to bleed the setup I could only get the left rear and the two front calipers to bleed. The right rear caliper and the clutch slave cylinder do not pass any fluid at all. I've done three clutch jobs on various C900 models I've owned and this is a first for me. I used a Motive pressure bleeder to do the bleeding and the three calipers bleed out in text book style.
Here's my question... Does the fluid reservoir on the brake master cylinder come with the clutch connection nipple SEALED UP? so the same part will fit on automatic transmission cars as well as manual trans? ( This would require you to puncture or drill out the nipple to fit it on a manula trans equipped car.) I did not think to check this out before installing the new part. This would explain why I cannot get any fluid out of the slave cylinder. If I have an assistant pump the clutch pedal and then hold it down and I open and then close the bleeder nipple on the slave cylinder ( like you would do to manually bleed a brake caliper) it creates a strong enough vacuum in the clutch circuit to instantly suck fluid up from my fluid catch jar into the slave cylinder as soon as I open the bleeder on the slave again.
I plan to pull the hose that supplies the clutch master cylinder off at the brake fluid reservoir and see if anything leaks out through the fluid reservoir's nipple as soon as I can, but I thought I'd ask you folks first. I had replaced the clutch package in this car recently and I;m pretty sure
the clutch master and slave are both healthy.
That rear brake caliper is another story....... I'll try cracking the connection between the metal line on the axle and the new rubber hose at the caliper and see if I'm getting fluid up to that point. If so I'll try putting the old caliper back on and see if it will bleed out properly.
