Which is fine and all, but accept your mistaken/botched install and go back and fix it if the leak bothers you.
Removing and replacing a rear main doesn't cause leaks....screwing it up does. A rear seal can last hundreds of thousands of miles but every time I happen to be in the process of doing something to an engine that allows a rear seal replacement for parts cost only I'd do it after a hundred thousand on the engine, IF I intended to keep the car for more than a year.
