You can tape it to the boards, claim it has posession of the puck, and hit it with your body.
You can open the hood, look where it is supposed to be, and observe.
Which type of sensor do you need to check? Is it a crank pulley sensor or in the distributor? Do you have any symptoms? Is there a lot of oil in the area? Is the wiring and connector intact? My best guess is that the signal (current/voltage) generated by the sensor should be roughly proportional to the speed of the camshaft it's sensing.
