A story of nipples and headlights

I picked up a good used set of headlights and sidelights today from Crazed-list for $50. Once I got them home I noticed they were the older non-headlight-wiper style with the extra little nipple up top. Since I have headlight wipers on all my cars I thought I'd try grinding them off. I put the light in my slop sink and ran water over it while I grinded away with an abrasive wheel on my Dremel. 15 minutes later, no nipple. The lights also had some road haze, so while I was buffing the area I ground off, I polished the whole light. I have a friend who makes marble and granite counter tops. He let me borrow some of his diamond wet grinding disks. They worked AWESOME! I started with 1000 grit then 2000 then 3000 then 10000. I finished up with a good buffing with a poultice made of diatemacious earth (yes, I descovered that the swimming pool filter aid stuff makes a great mild abrasive polish). They came out so good I might try doing my windshield next.
