It was possible on my 85 Saab 8v for both of my upper A arm bushings on the drivers side. Although I have a spring compressor I did not need it.
The normal car weight provide enough spring compression so that one bushing could be worked on at a time. The other bushing must remain in place. When the two bolts are removed from the single bushing take care not to lose the shims. The A arm cross shaft will spring away from full alignment with the bushing mounting bolt holes when the bushing housing is removed...however, it can be realigned with a heavy screw driver (12+") or hand pry bar when the bushing is reinstalled. The actual work is associated with the removal and installation of the rubber bushing within the bushing sleeve which a table vice and a series of bolts/nuts/washers were handy to act as a puller.
