I fixed my caps tightness by spraying silicon lubricant on the rubber seal of the cap and sprayed a wiped the sealing area on the filler neck of the tank. First thing I did was loosen the cap and clicked it on again only to find it was really tight again. This was with the engine off. then I sprayed it and smooth and easy again. Didn't think it was a vacuum for lack of (psst). Guess the gasoline fumes and liquid dry the rubber out. Make sure to get silicon between the cap and rubber seal also, because this is the side you want to slide.
