Might as well replace the fronts too. A car of that vintage certainly has toasted speakers. I just replaced mine, and the OEMs I pulled front and rear had no surround left on them. The cones were free floating. Speakers get brittle with age.
I used SoundStream SST4.0 in the front (direct replacement) and SoundStream SST6.9s in the rear. I had to make special brackets for the 6x9s to go in the back. I understand your situation and realize you're not going to that level. For anyone else reading this post, I highly recommend the SoundStream SSTs. It's unbelievable the sound that comes from them. Even the bass is strong. My 17 year-old son even likes them better than the Pioneers he just put in his 900, and that's saying something. :-) They are coaxials and come with external crossovers to seperate the speakers.
I put Polk speakers in my 900 CV last summer, but I think I'll be replacing them in the spring with the SoundStreams--they are that good.
Got them at the link below.
