scotsaab,
Probably best to obtain a Bentley or genuine Saab manual before you proceed. Saab manuals section 2.1 Basic Engine or section 4 Transmission each have engine/transmission removal procedure. There are lots of useful and some important tips and details that you don't want to overlook, here's one: block the suspension. You'll need to draw the axles outward before lifting the unit and that is facilitated by separating the suspension/steering links (knuckles). You can separate the ball joints from the links (which can be a PIA) or unbolt the ball joints from the control arms and slip them out, which is usually the easier way to go. But first you must place some form of block between the upper control arm and the inner fender wall to prevent the upper control arms from descending fully, as it will once the power unit's weight is removed from the car, or you'll find it very difficult to disconnect and re-connect the links. Guys use old spark plugs, main or rod bearing caps and almost anything else that's about 3/4" to 1" thick (and won't crush). I often just use some small blocks of hard maple wood or large steel nuts. Also, it's counter-intuitive but you can unbolt the AC compressor and carefully lay it back to the right just enough to allow the power plant to be lifted out and preclude opening the AC refrigerant circuit. Cheers
