If you have the ball at 3/4" you don't need the spacer. I went to aluminum for guaranteed reliability when I started selling them. The aluminum piece has holes for the screws to pass through, rather than the insets like the PVC piece. I still have the PVC piece in the original one I made that is in my car with no problems--but, better safe than sorry. The toughest part about making them for sale is obtaining the shifters and housings relatively inexpensively. I've got enough shifters and housings on hand now to make about four.
