most cars won't require recoding the fob.
chances are the worst that would happen is you have to recode the car to the fob, something like pressing the lock button on the fob and then inserting the key and locking the car.
see your owner's manual for recoding the car/fob. hopefully not a dealer action...I've done it many times on my audi.
