Clunk and grind noise..........possible axle problem? Posted by JeffR [Email] (#2860) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JeffR) on Mon, 10 Mar 2008 17:32:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Clunk and grind noise after tightening both front shock (lower) bolts. Two years ago I had new front shocks mounted at a shop. As I was fishing under the car after dropping my Voltage Regulator, (Ya, Murphys Law), I was feeling around and noticed the lower bolt for the driver's side shock was so loose I could turn it my fingers. So I took the wheel off and tightened first the driver side, then the passenger side, BOTH were very loose! The axle boot on the driver's side is split real bad.
After driving it- right away actually- I noticed a weird thunk/grind noise. I drove about 6 miles and parked for the night. This morning I started off for work and noticed it was worse and after 1 mile I turned around and drove 5 MPH all the way back and switched cars.
I was "feeling" a thunk, or a clunk, and a kind of "grinding" sound. Could the tightening of the VERY LOOSE shock bolts have caused a bad transaxle to become worse?
Thanks for any input!
