Generally, any classic 900T can be modded to a safe 250 HP. The major issue with modding classic 900T's is that the torque kills the trans fast, even in 5 speed cars. But the 250 HP matches up to whatever torque is generated, and it's all in the upper rpm's anyway, past 3500 rpm. So unless you jack-rabbit start from a stoplight, you'll be ok at that power range in that classic car. Unfortunately, if you want more than that regardless of power mods, you will have to upgrade the transmission which is the weakest link in the whole quest for power. Some aftermarket groups have strengthened the trans, but it is still an iffy proposition as they aren't made for much more power than that and a new beefy trans is costly. The next generation '94-'98 900T has the trans issue worked out and the engine details sorted out with a better ecu (T-5 I beleive), so both major parts can do upwards 300 HP, without incident. Again the main issue with these cars is torque, the lower in the rpm range it is made, the more likely it will break the trans. The 9-3T is very similar to the next gen 900T, only saab went to a T-7 ecu in 2000. The next gen 900T and 9-3T are different mostly due to comfort and amenitites, I believe. The standard mods for any turbo car is always: better air in via filter upgrade, cooler air into engine via better front mount intercooler, and perhaps larger injectors for better fueling, and larger turbocharger as needed to cram more air into engine... and the necessary reprogrammed ecu to make it all happen. I believe hirsche, abbott, maptun and JSP all offer staged power kits, call them.
