It's a common phenominum when you're just getting snowed under like this to reach a point of exaspiration and give up just when you should hang tough. I've seen this more than a few times and what tends to happen is someone else gets your car, fixes something that may not be all that big a deal and they benefit from all of the expensive repairs. If you've put $5K into it, you probably should see it though and drive it another year or two to get something out of your investment. The time to bail would have been before you put the 5K in, not you almost have to see it through. I wish you luck, let us know how it works out.
