This reminds me of a story from my Corvette days. A non-smoking friend used the lighter as a "kill" switch by removing +12 and wiring from coil input to the lighter, grounding the ignition when lighter was pressed in. The idea, of course, to cripple the car in the event of a theft attempt.
All was well until he sold car to a new Corvette Club member (after long since forgetting about the modification!). Two days later, new owner calls with news that car died on I-76, had to be towed, and everyone involved was completely baffled. Could he assist?
It took old owner several hours, assisting, before he remembered what the problem was! The new owner was showing off his new ride to a smoker friend and smoker pressed the lighter to light up while they were traveling down the road..
