Sounds like 1 of 2 things to me -- both pretty e-z to figure out...
#1 (most likely)... since your car is a turbo, it has a "hall effect" sensor, a black plastic plug mounted on the side of the distributor. If this connection is intermittent, you get what you describe. The connection is a very common problem on the c900 turbos because the heat above the turbo/underhood environment causes the tabs / plastic connector housing to deteriorate to the point where the wires inside vibrate/break/aren't well seated. Does your tachometer needle bounce at all when you crank? If not, this is probably it. To test, try and wiggle this while you are cranking the car (or while someone else is cranking)
#2 (also likely but if this was the problem I feel like you'd get dash lights...)... a large intercooler or turbo supply hose has come off and you've got a massive air leak that is causing engine not to run
Could also be a bad ECU (under passenger side dashboard).
Check the hall sensor first and report back ! Good luck.
