As Peter said, but the aforementioned foot room shrank with a different bolster beginning in 1989. It's not a console versus non-console issue, it's just when the part changed for the SRS phase-in.
I removed the ashtray and added the console to my '88 so I know they are directly compatible. I'm willing to swap a newer bolster for the grey one on my '88 (older style, more foot room) but don't feel like shipping it or being without one. I will drive a little (I'm about 20 miles north of Albany, NY) if you have a grey one to swap.
Keep your eyes on the classifieds. I got a carpet for my convertible that didn't look like Swiss cheese a little over a year ago. There should be a few folks on there that have what you need, just shoot out a bunch of messages.
