But make sure you don't end up sanding a 'dip' in the gasket area. Use a machinist's straight edge to ensure you have a flat surface. There are arguments for undercutting the notch you made for good adhesion, but I'd guess that a simple and thorough degreasing if not a re-notching to get fresh metal (ATF and oil do seep into/between aluminum crystals/molecules) and then using JB Weld.

There are also other materials made by DevCon. I'd probably look into aluminum putty or aluminum liquid. I've seed DevCon's titanium putty used in refurbishing/converting axles on Army 2 1/2 and five ton trucks to central tire inflation.

One issue is galvanic corrosion between the aluminum pan and the metal filler of whater epoxy you choose to use. Aluminum filled epoxy will have zero galvanic corrosion, but steel-filled epoxy will probably have a low corrosion rate anyway because of the insulation properties of the epoxy resin. The steel-filled epoxy will be harder to grind down, but on the other hand JB Weld is easily purchased. The DevCon stuff will probably be harder to find. Here's a link.
