I did a head gasket on an old '80 turbo a while back. Lets say $50-100 in gaskets, sprays, plugs, etc, etc. When you start on a big job like this, you can get caught up in what I call the "might as well" phenomenon which can easily get out of hand. The car also needs a CV boot, ball joint and and a ABS brake fluid leak solved, Air Cond. hose replaced.(blew pin hole whilst grounding out wrench in attempt to change battery) as well as a leaky steering rack just to top it off. Argh.

I have access to a drive-in basement where I can park the car for a while and let is sit unharmed but it's my best option gas-mileage wise so I'm kind of pressed for a car. Since it is still operable with no indications of failure other than a slow coolant burn-off, I might be best served waiting on it for a while to examine more options. For what it could cost in repair, I might be better off finding something else to drive and tucking the car away clean for an interested buyer at some point Fact of the matter is that this car is tight and handles fantastic. I'm the 2nd owner and have all the service records + original documents. To be tip-top, it would need a repaint, dash board and a few other little things.
