The fuel pump is located under a round port under the floor of the trunk (left side). Listen for the humming pump while somene turns on the ignition. The ecu will shut down the pump in a few seconds if the engine is not running ( safety feature), so you need an assistant.

If pump is running and still no start, and if tank is almost empty, it may be the pre-pump.

If no pump noise, check for voltage at pump with the same technique.

If you have voltage and no hum, likely dead pump(s). Some report temporary revival by thumping the pump in hope of causing the brushes to reset.

If no voltage, it may be a faulty pump relay, also common failure.. The relay is located atop the ecu, passenger side knee wall, under the carpeting. There are two relays there, system relay and fuel pump. Check both.

The relay can be by-passed by jumping 12 volts to the fuel pump fuse (#30, if I recall).


The entire pump assembly is quite expensive ($400), but pump cartridge is available separately for about $100. But you will need to remove the pump assembly to identify which pump (2 types) you have.
