What makes a classic Saab more valuable?

I've checked out the classifieds for years now, and it seems to me classic 900s seem to have the most value when they are in great condition (*zero* rust, perfect paint & no cracks in the dash), great provenance (definitely 1 owner with records), certainly less than 200k miles, probably less than 100k, some nice options (Red APC, SPG panels, maybe the real whaletale, factory performance exhaust etc) and maybe some engine tweaks (hot fuel injectors, maybe and aftermarket air box) but nothing crazy.
Conversely, any extreme modifications like total custom paint jobs (not limited to the body - this would include powder coating the engine etc), attempts to make the 900 into a fast & furious type racers, etc seem to have zero or even negative resale implications. Anybody seen the Canary yellow 900 in the classifieds? Yuck.
So, what options, condition, mileage would make a classic saab really desirable, and what would that saab sell for in the real world?
